Beagles are prone to a number of diseases. Health conditions can be the result of a poor diet or other factors, yet some of them result from poor breedings. Therefore, it is recommended to test the breeding stock for hereditary diseases such as cancer, endocrine system problems, deafness, heart and immune disorders, and many more. Behavioral disorders can also be the result of unplanned breedings.

To lessen the chance of health problems in Beagles, breeders should test their dogs for hip and eye problems. The CERF (Canine Eye Registration Foundation) and the OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) take care to evaluate the dog's health and supply necessary papers that indicate the dog is free from the disease. Breeders should test their dogs every year to determine affected dogs and exclude them from breeding programs.
