There are several myths concerning this breed. These hounds are said to be stubborn and hard to housebreak, train and socialize. The fact is that being very intelligent and eager to please the owner, these dogs get bored very quickly with an exercise and find another way to have fun. The owner has to find a motivation and make training interesting for the hound. Some puppies of this breed take up to a year to be fully house-trained, but usually such puppies haven’t got the right training in their early age.

These hounds are very energetic and active. They are likely to make wonderful pets for people who lead an active life. It is considered a medium-sized breed. These hounds vary a lot in height, 15 inches being the standard size. There is a great distinction in the coat color of the breed, although the most common color is black, tan and white. These hunting hounds are sturdy and muscular in appearance. They are good-natured dogs, and generally get along well with most other dogs. Besides being great scenting hounds, they make very good watchdogs as well. The breed is relatively easy to keep, as the grooming requirements are minimal.
